Carnival Hero: The Website

The Carnival Hero website has gone LIVE!! Check it out!
We've got some info and some song samples coming your way.
Check out some clips from out Live @ Crocker Park show too!

Song Titles

Here are the titles to some songs I've been working on:

Out Of My Dreams (Very melodic pop song with an infectious chorus)
This Is How The World Ends (Dark rock song being stripped down. It'll sound interesting on acoustic)
Dizzy Me Up (Another infectious pop song)
Sitting By The Sea (Quiet, low key ballad in the Style of Kenny Chesney's islandy songs)
Everybody's Feelin' Alright (Islandy reggae sound)
Rise and Fall (mid tempo rocker with a bit of blues mixed in)
Hey, Little Girl (Acoustic rocker. This song is the oldest of the set. I would guess it's maybe 5 years old and has seen many transformations)

"Out of My Dreams" will be the first song released from the set. I currently have it recorded in demo form and as soon as I transfer the programs over from my old computer I'll be uploading it to the blog-tastic. It's the first straight up love song although it's a mid tempo tune in 6/8 time.

Djembe

I just bought a djembe which is an african hand drum. Soon I will begin working on a solo acoustic record of new stuff, some old stuff stripped down and maybe a cover or two. It'll be as basic and stripped as possible. Acoustic guitar, vocals, piano, djembe and maybe some bass for good measure. We're talking Rick Rubin style.

Marblehead Festival of Arts

The show went very well. I wanted to write and thank everyone that came out and supported us on the 4th. We had a few technical difficulties (every guitar I touched crapped out haha) but we powered through it and rocked out. I'll be posting video, audio and photographs shortly. For now here is the setlist:

I Would Rock 500 Miles

If any of you have been out for karaoke with Dylan and Me you may have heard us own the shit out of this tune. We decided since it's such a hit at Fantasy Island that we'd cover it. Here is our first attempt.

Today We Lost a Legend

On the day the world found out we lost Michael Jackson, one of the strangest albeit most talented entertainers ever seen, we tackled "I Want You Back." We tackled it a few time and struggled with the structure. Here is an early take of us running through the Jackson 5 classic. My mic needs to be turned up clearly haha.

On the Run - Take 3

Today's focus at practice was getting to know my song titled "On The Run." It's a nice little melodic rocker in 6/8 timing (or is it 3/4? i can never remember the difference). During the show Dunc and I will switch guitars. He is very excited to be rocking out on the electric. The take embeded in this here podcast is take 3. We are working on getting the timing down for the end of the song but I think it's coming together pretty nicely. We're excited to hear what Marcin will bring to the song. What a nice bunch of boys to let me sing!

On The Run (take 3)

Carnival Classic Rock

Marcin was absent at practice today and Dunc took over on electric guitar on this sessions jam. We put together this bluesy classic rock number and rocked the shit out of it while Dunc worked on his chops. Rock that tremolo pedal Dunc!!!

Get On You Boots

Our first full band attempt at Get On Your Boots. This song fires me up and I can't wait to rock it live. We sped up the bpm and it rocks even harder now.

U2's Get On Your Boots

Blues at the Carnival

While Dylan was in the bathroom we ripped into this bluesy number. I was feeling pretty fired up and ripped into some blues solos. Let the music do the talking...

Help! Dylan has returned!

Dylan did some studying while we were learning songs and he's got the lyrics to Help! down very well. I worked on the harmonies and we think we nailed it. Here is Take 1 from yesterday's practice.

All the Single Ladies Put Your Hands Up!

This is the moment you all have been waiting for. The moment where I completely embarrass myself and upload a demo of "Single Ladies." We've reworked the lyrics because we don't want gloss on our lips or men on our hips. So yeah... I recorded this demo so the guys can listen to the chords and the song structure that I've arranged here. Although he does not look forward to it Dylan will be singing this live. If you like it then put a ring on it!

Single Ladies (Demo)

All the single ladies (7x)

Now put your hands up
Up in the club, we just broke up
I’m doing my own little thing
You decided to dip but now you wanna trip
Cuz another brother noticed me
I’m up on her, she up on me
Dont pay her any attention
Cuz i cried my tears, for three good years
Ya can’t be mad at me

Cuz if you liked it then you shoulda kept the ring on it
If you liked it then you shoulda kept the ring on it
Don’t be mad once you see that she want it
If you liked it then you shoulda kept the ring on it

wo oh ooh oh oh ooh oh oh ooh oh oh oh x2

Cuz if you liked it then you shoulda kept the ring on it
If you liked it then you shoulda kept the ring on it
Don’t be mad once you see that she want it
If you liked it then you shoulda kept the ring on it

wo oh ooh oh oh ooh oh oh ooh oh oh oh x2

She got gloss on her lips, she's hangin on my hips
Got her tighter than her Dereon jeans
acting up, drink in my cup
I could care less what you think
I need no permission, did I mention
Dont pay her any attention
Cuz you had your turn
But now you gonna learn
What it really feels like to miss me

Cuz if you liked it then you shoulda kept the ring on it
If you liked it then you shoulda kept the ring on it
Don’t be mad once you see that she want it
If you liked it then you shoulda kept the ring on it

wo oh ooh oh oh ooh oh oh ooh oh oh oh x2

All the single ladies (7x)
Now put your hands up
woo oh ooh oh oh ooh oh oh ooh
oh oh oh 2x

Cuz if you liked it then you shoulda kept the ring on it
If you liked it then you shoulda kept the ring on it
Don’t be mad once you see that she want it
If you liked it then you shoulda kept the ring on it

wo oh ooh oh oh ooh oh oh ooh oh oh oh x2
Cuz if you liked it then you shoulda kept the ring on it
If you liked it then you shoulda kept the ring on it
Don’t be mad once you see that she want it
If you liked it then you shoulda kept the ring on it

Funky Primus

It seems to have become a tradition that we rip into some new tune every time we get together. This is what we came up with today. I can't really put a genre to it but it's kinda funky. Check it:

Today's Jam

Help! ing Out

Dunc missed practice today so I took over on vocals. This was the end of the practice so my voice was a bit tired and I had trouble projecting. If you focus real hard you might be able to hear me sing. haha.

The Carnival is coming to your town

Sharks On The Beach

This is the genius that came out of the studio at today's session. We call this genre Death Surf Rock. This song was aptly titled Sharks On The Beach by Marcin. Although the lyrics are improved and there are no mention of sharks or beaches it is about sharks invading the beach. Everybody out of the water!!!!!!!!!

On The Run

As of right now I will be singing two songs in the set for the Festival of Arts show at Crocker Park. This song here, titled "On The Run," was written with Dylan on my porch one sunny, summer afternoon after a lengthy game of beach volley ball. It has nothing to do with any of that. haha. Anyway.. I'm quite proud of it so I wanted to post it up here so you can get a preview of what I'll be singing. It's a mid tempo melodic rock song (isn't all my music?). Regardless it'll get your feet tapping.

I Want You Back

We're working on a few covers for the Festival of Arts show this summer. One of the highlights will be a cover of Jackson 5's "I Want You Back." Since I went through puberty already (barely my voice still cracks haha) I won't be able to sing as high as Michael, so I'm singing like 2 octaves lower. haha. Dylan will be providing falsetto back up vocals. Here is a quick acoustic demo I threw together for ya'll to get a sneak preview. It's going to be effing amazing!!

Warnings In The Sky

This is the band's first attempt at "Warnings In The Sky" which is a song written by Dylan with me helping with the music. The is our most U2 inspired song to date. Marcin and Cullen had some suggestions and the song took on a new life. The plan is to open the set for the Festival of Arts with this song. This podcast is the full band reimagining of the song. Below are links to both the new version and Dylan and my demo. Enjoy.

Marblehead Festival of Arts

I just received word that we are booked to play the Marblehead Festival of Arts on Saturday July 4th starting at 1:15. It is a one hour set at Crocker Park with a back drop of the harbor. It's a great time so come down and grab a seat on the lawn or the rocks and listen to us rock out for an hour. I'll post the set list as we figure things out.

3.16.2009

Get the Funk Out

At yesterday's session we broke into this funky rock jam. It got a little crazy at some points but when it comes together it sounds pretty fun. Give it a listen. I'll probably use the riff for something in the future and I already have some ideas for the song.

Podcast not working :(

For some reason the new Podcasts are not working so I decided to start streaming the demos on the website. I should've done that in the first place for those less technologically inclined.

Stand

So... Dylan hates me.... He didn't have me planned for this song but we gave it a shot at practice today anyway.. This is take 2 which is a slower take than take 1 but it seems to be everyone's favorite. The song is still in the baby stages as Dylan would like a more powerful and dynamic close to the song. In this take Marcin starts out the song with a little bass lick. Most likely my guitar part will involve an ebow. I just
didn't have it that day.

City Lights

This here is the 2nd take of City Lights from today's session. I don't have a direction for the solo yet and Dylan still has some ideas to work into the song. It's coming along...

Marblehead Festival of Arts

Carnival Hero will be playing the Marblehead Festival of Arts this summer. Exact details to be announced soon.

2.16.2009

The Fuzz Gun In The End

I just bought a pedal called the Supersonic Fuzz Gun. It has an absolute beast of a sound to it. I will be using it for the Fuzz lead in Dylan's song "In The End." Here is today's take of "In The End" with the Fuzz Gun.

Simply Put I Want You Gone

Here is the band's first take on Dylan's "Hello Amy" from today's session. It is one of the most hooky songs on his album.
Be sure to check out his blog for updates on his album:

Reggae Jam

At practice today Marcin was messing around with this bass lick and Cullen joined in. Eventually it wandered it's way into the reggae genre and that is what you are hearing on this Podcast.

2.01.2009

Carnival Hero

We formed the band and named it too. Carnival Hero will be playing the Marblehead Festival of the Arts this summer. Soon we will be opening shows for a U2 cover band called The Joshua Tree.

1.25.2009

...and We Will Chase Horizons

Here is the first song from today's session with the boys. This one is titled Horizons. It is an upbeat rocker and will probably lead off Dylan's album. Be sure to check out his blog for updates on his album:
http://whattokeep.blogspot.com

You Will Know Who You Are In The End

I got together with Dylan, Marcin and Cullen to work on songs for Dylan's forthcoming album What To Keep and Let Go. In this episode of the podcast we are performing In The End. You would think that we had been practicing this song for quite some time but the take you hear here is the 3rd and final of the night... and ever for that matter. haha. The four of us really gelled.

Be sure to check out his blog for updates on his album:

Mid Tempo Bluesy Rocker

We also came up with a few other little riffs and jams. There is a mid tempo bluesy rocker in the podcast as well. Check 'em out!

The Sweetest Sound

I got together with Chesley and Mark for a jam session and I brought out my sexy blues song with the provisional title "The Sweetest Sound." I'm still working on the lyrics for the tune but you can get the idea of the song in the podcast. The tempo will be a bit faster.

Meet Me Halfway

UPDATE

Next week I will be working with Kris Jimos on the new song "Meet me Halfway." It is a piano ballad which I'm trying to give a hip hop back beat. There's a demo with me on vocals on today's podcast if you'd like to hear a sample. I will post some clips of us in the studio. In the mean time, like I said, check out the podcast.
