New Single: Alive Like You

from the upcoming album: The Diaries of Cam DeBarcho

Chad Macomber introduces you to his brand new sound and next offering from the forthcoming album titled "The Diaries of Mr. Cam DeBarcho." The instrumentals feature a dark dance beat with melodic vocals and a mariachi style trumpet.

The song tells the story of a person that has become dissatisfied with themselves and creates a false persona to hide who they really are. This causes a feeling of self-doubt, insecurity and the eventual inner battle between the personalities. The story is told from the trapped original persona as he/she longs to be the person they have created for the public. The music captures the dynamic conflict between the two personalities with the true personality being the main character.

Macomber reaches out to unlikely influences such as Lady Gaga,  and Maroon 5 to bring together a dance track with a latin feel. Without further ado we at Ashes to Embers provide you with Chad Macomber's new single....

Fun with GarageBand part 2

On installment of Chad Macomber's Fun with GarageBand we find Chad Macomber at a beach party on the beach. Enjoy the sounds on songs of the ocean and sand. It was inspired by the many beach parties on the beach in Jamaica. Free download below.

Fun with GarageBand part 1

Recently I received about a million GarageBand loops from my buddy Marcin and I've been messing around with them to get the feel of the program. Normally I record on ProTools but I like the software instruments and loops on Apple's GarageBand. A few of my new songs require some complex sounds that I can only do with in GarageBand so I decided to screw around with it for a while. This is one I threw together last night. I played no instruments. It's only loops and midi. Check it:

On Deck Circle

Now that the first single "Love Shaped Hole" has been released it's time to focus our direction on what's next. Currently there are many songs fighting their way on and off the album. Every song is going through a transition and if any song can't support the dramatic dynamic feel of the album then it will get left off. We know that the next single is "Alive Like You," but what's next?

Here is a list of songs that have solidified their spot on the album:

Voodoo Crimes: A dark rocker that flirts Led Zeppelin with Muse

Questions Of: A soft acoustic guitar/ piano driven electronic rock ballad. This is actually the first guitar riff I ever wrote. 11 years later and it's finally going to be finished.

Me and The Lord Are Gonna Have Words: A fast rocking, crunchy guitar driven blues shuffle.

Love To Me: A dark, loveless, soul searching ballad with hints of eastern musical dynamics.

If you've been following for a while you may have seen this previous post regarding a stripped acoustic album. Well fear not... most of the songs revealed there will appear in some form or another on "The Diaries of Cam DeBarcho"

To hold you over while you wait for the next single I present my podcast listeners with a demo of "Alive Like You"

Enjoy!!

OFFICIAL RELEASE: Love Shaped Hole

***IT'S HERE!***

Chad Macomber returns in a big way after a few years on hiatus with other bands and working on other peoples' albums. "Love Shaped Hole" is the first new original release by Chad since 2007/2008's double A side "On the Run"/"False Starts and Broken Hearts." This is the first release from the forthcoming album titled "The Diaries of Mr. Cam DeBarcho."

In the song the main character stands at the intersection of two universes: one with his lover and one without. The dynamics of the music separate the two worlds which battle back and forth into a dreamy state. The lyrics find the character realizing what a world would be like had things turned out differently (not unlike Jimmy Stewart in Miracle on 34th Street).

Macomber calls on his musical influences and multi-instrumental talent to provide a dynamic atmosphere to the song. Without further ado we at Ashes to Embers provide you with Chad Macomber's new single....

A Page from the Diary

With the new single "Love Shaped Hole" looming I present to you a page from Cam's diary. This is actually two separate poems that I grabbed from his diary and combined into one song. The chorus is a poem titled "Alive Like You," and the last 3 quatrains (and I use that term loosely since there are 5 lines not 4) is titled "Prison Skin." You can read both of them on his blog. I actually wrote the first quatrain in the lyrics to flesh out the song. There is a bit of idolatry in the chorus, and it seems to be religious in nature. However, in the verse (the poem "Prison Skin") Cam is speaking of putting a different face forward and trapping yourself within that skin. I really liked the idea of this, so I ran with it. He writes of masks and protection and self imprisonment which to me says that he has put this guise up in order to protect a fragile ego. When I combined the poem "Alive Like You," with "Prison Skin" I was taking this ideal a step further. Here the character puts this psuedo-self forward to hide the timid fragile ego and ends up being consumed by this personality. The true self becomes dangerously obsessed with this new skin and desires to become this person. Essentially this is a story about inner personal struggle of one's self awareness. Did I get too philisophical on you?

Cam's Blog

I will be explaining the concept behind the new album in the days to come but for now I wanted to give you a little overview. A few years ago I met a old poet, named Mr. Cam DeBarcho, who shared with me some of his work. It left such an impression on me that I asked if I could put some of his poems to song. At the time I was experiencing severe writers block, but I had plenty of musical arrangements waiting for lyrics. He agreed to the collaboration and lent me one of his books. I took some of the poems and made changes and additions in order for them to fit into song. I also convinced the old man to start blogging some of the poems. Please take a look at his blog to see his work and get an idea of what's to come on my new album, "The Diaries of Mr. Cam DeBarcho."

New single: "Alive Like You"

As you now know the songwriting process is nearly finished and soon I will begin recording my third album titled The Diaries of Mr. Cam DeBarcho. The first single, tentatively titled "Follow," officially titled "Alive Like You," is a raw garage band and latin rock hybrid with an infectious hook. I've been experimenting with my sound and looking to add different elements to it and I feel this song is the perfect embodiment of what has been and what is to come. Look for the new single to be released sometime in the summer. I am deciding on an accompanying cover song as well. Keep an eye out on Cam's blog for when he posts the poem.

Cam's Journal

Cam's book of poems
I have begun preliminary work on a 3 part symphony titled "The March for Salvation." It will span 3 tracks on the new album and be littered with dynamic and emotional highs and lows.

Work on the new album, "The Diary of Mr. Cam DeBarcho," has picked back up again, so expect some updates on the progress of the record as they occur. I will be keeping a hand written journal to map out song arrangements and lyrics. Don't forget to monitor Cam's poems over at the DeBarcho Blog.
